Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
Here’s another one of Nebraska’s best scorers from the rural landscape. Rust more than doubled her kill output from 2024, generating over 300 terminations for an upstart Red Cloud squad. Her impact was never more apparent than in the district finals, where Rust collected 19 kills in a three-set upset win over Sandhills/Thedford. The Warriors leaned on their leader when their season was on the line, even if that leader was just an underclassman. Rust has welcomed her role as Red Cloud’s go-to weapon.

Rust was identified as a player to watch when we previewed underdog performers before the start of the tournament. She paced the Warriors with four kills per set and gained steam after Red Cloud’s exceptional run through district play. The uber-athletic pin hitter backed that up by leading the team again with nine kills in the quarterfinal showdown with top-seeded Wynot. Rust was willing to take tough out-of-system swings and get crafty with her high-hand tools. She has range beyond her years.
