About Alana

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Cat-like agility & quickness as a Libero/DS. Strong server w/pin point accuracy & versatility. High flyer w/power & a variety of shots as an OH. Multi-faceted player who is an elite level defender & equally as dangerous as an attacker. Relentless motor, high energy, & strong vocal presence on court.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Highly competitive person. Vocal & outgoing. Passion for training in the gym & on the court. Very coachable w/a strong desire to improve in all areas. Ultimate team player who is unselfish & willing to embrace any role that promotes team success. Energetic, laser focus, & very confident, Innate ability to stay loose & relaxed in high pressure situations. Very enthusiastic approach towards my team.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Developed strong leadership skills as a 4 sport athlete working w/various coaching styles & personalities. I've moved several times, which has provided me opportunities to earn the trust of my teammates & coaches thru my actions as a competitor as well as developing meaningful relationships. I've positively impacted the lives of others thru my community service work w/my sports teams.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I've moved several times which provided me an opportunity to learn & adapt to new challenges. Joined new teams where I was starting over & required to work my way up from the bottom which prepared me for life. I have adapted to new roles & coaching styles outside of my comfort zone which helped my overall growth. Libero most of my career, I moved to OH at only 5'6" but still made varsity as a FR.

What type of college are you looking for?

School w/strong volleyball tradition in developing players that also competes at a Championship level. A school with a strong academic foundation that also has proven success on the court. Both my parents were Division 1 Scholar-Athlete's at Duke University so I would like a similar experience that combines the best of both worlds!
