How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
Hello, my name is Amber Halverson. I am a 5’8” hitter graduating in 2027. My block touch is 9’8”, and my jump touch is 9’4”. Good sportsmanship, being surrounded by a competitive environment, and obtaining self-discipline/mental toughness skills demonstrates my gameplay style. I enjoy working with others and learning to become a better player/leader on and off the court.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I strive to use my mental toughness to promote a positive mindset on and off the court. I love being an optimistic and supportive teammate. As a student-athlete, I also practice a growth mindset. A brief description of my personality is that I love being supportive, engaged, and learning from others. I also enjoy working and collaborating with others on and off the court.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
A-B Honor Roll, AICE Program, National Science, Art, and Spanish Honors Societies, AICE Advisory Board, HOSA, Interact Club, Jax Skyline’s 650 Pound Club, and Beachside’s Sports Medicine Program. Accepted into the University of Florida, GatorWise-Science Exploration Program & the University of Florida Health Flagler Hospital - Junior Volunteer Program. Recipient of two American Legion Awards, etc.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I’ve obtained good communication, active listening, and other leadership skills. By volunteering with HOSA, I learned from others how to serve my community. By volunteering at UF Health Flagler Hospital as a Junior Volunteer, I strengthen my teamwork skills in a hospital setting. As a student athletic trainer & volleyball camp counselor, I’ve learned to work in different situations with athletes.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I have faced challenges such as my grandfather’s declining health due to Parkinson’s Disease, dementia, and other health-related concerns. I also faced challenges of establishing a new life, such as transferring schools and joining a new volleyball club by moving across the state. I also faced challenges due to a previous ankle injury.
What type of college are you looking for?
I am looking for a college with an excellent academic and volleyball program where I can thrive as a student-athlete. My long-term goal is to attend a four-year university, play volleyball in college, and become a psychiatrists.
