Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
Billeter has been part of this discussion before, but as a freshman. She took the reins of the Bartley Southwest offense last year and led the Roughriders to an undefeated regular season and a postseason berth. The sophomore setter replicated that tournament breakthrough with another Lincoln trek this fall. Billeter logged 37 assists and a colossal 26 digs during Southwest’s back-and-forth quarterfinal affair with Overton, another powerhouse on the small-town stage. All this elite experience is piling up.

It feels like it was just yesterday that Billeter was a breakout freshman in last year’s tournament field. The Bartley Southwest setter is back with the Roughriders but will embrace the “hunter” role this time around. Perhaps that will ease the pressure and produce some of Billeter’s best volleyball yet.

We’re leaning heavily into the small-town stars for this one. Bartley Southwest generated plenty of headlines last year en route to an undefeated regular season, and Billeter ran that show as a first-year prep athlete. She’s back in action this fall with around ten assists per set for one of Nebraska’s most dynamic offenses. Billeter is not shy about forcing her middles and making a risky set against the grain. The result has been an 18-3 mark and the Roughriders’ return to Class D1 frontrunner status.

Billeter has already done her share of winning on the prep stage. Bartley Southwest entered last year’s state tournament with an unblemished record, all while having a freshman setter operate around the dial. Billeter was among Nebraska’s top first-year setters last fall and has a supporting cast for another postseason run this year.

Running one of Nebraska’s most efficient offenses is a daunting challenge, and it’s even more difficult to do it as a freshman. Fortunately, Bartley Southwest boasted one of Nebraska’s most poised and precise setters of the 2028 class. Billeter dished out a red-hot Roughrider offense and tallied over ten assists per set throughout the 2024 season. That exceptional output led to an undefeated season, giving Bartley Southwest the No. 1 seed in Class D1. The small-town scene will be competitive again next fall, but Billeter and her team should remain near the top.
