About Ava

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I enjoy playing aggressive while also reading the court. I try and learn the habits of my opponent which creates opportunities for ball placement. I also enjoy playing back row and helping my teammates. Read the court and anticipate what is coming at us. I am supportive of my team whether it’s from the court or the bench I absolutely look at the team as a hole.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a very outgoing personality and seem to get along with many different types of people. I also am very adaptable to my coaches style as I have had many different types of coaches and do not take criticism personally, but as an opportunity for growth, I live by the quote. It is never too late for a comeback. I am to always encouraging my teammates that we can get the momentum back!!

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved with a leadership program which involved going to Georgetown last summer and participating in their leadership program and continuing to provide assistance to Third World countries for those in need. I have been on the honor roll for every semester in high school.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed leadership skills in being both a camp counselor at my Sleepaway camp, captain of my volleyball team and working with the leadership program in the community. I have played every team sport there is and truly understand that teamwork makes the dream work.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

The high school I attend is a very high ranked athletic school. I was selected to be on varsity starting my sophomore year and playing with mostly seniors who are very advanced was both challenging and exciting. Unfortunately I rolled my ankle and had to attend the championship game that we won on crutches, but it was worth every minute.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college that will allow me to truly have a college experience, both academically and socially. I am looking for a supportive environment with professors that care about their students and to have the opportunity to do hands-on work both at the school and in the community. I am also looking for a college where the students are supportive of o both academically and athletically.
