About Ava

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My game play style is very focused, strategic, and aggressive. I always do my best to look for the open spots and execute the smart play, while also using power and aggressiveness. Staying focused during rallies and the game as a whole is extremely important, but paying attention to my teammates and their mindsets is important as well.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality and personality is very positive and encouraging. I bounce back from any mistakes or challenges quickly, and I always encourage and uplift myself and my teammates both on and off the court.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

For the past two years at St. Paul VI Catholic High School I have run on the Varsity track team, and I plan on running during my last two years as well. I have also received an award for academic excellence in Debate at the end of the last school year.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I've been a co-captain on two of my club teams and on my second season as a JV player, which has taught me leadership skills and working together alongside another player to lead a team. Volunteering at children's camps as a counselor and at food pantries has taught me how to be a positive impact on my community, and how to help others through service and kindness.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Large challenges I have faced are how to rally my team and stay in the game despite being down in points, or having lost many games previously in the season or in the tournament. Playing a different position mid-game to fulfill the needs of the team in that moment was challenging as well, but I'm always happy and willing to do whatever needs to be done for the good of my teammates.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college along the east coast with great programs for studying Marine Biology or overall Marine Sciences. I'm also looking more towards Division 2 or Division 3 schools to find the right balance between my academics and my sport.
