Expert Analysis

Avery went to set for Blue Ridge 17, one of the top clubs in the area after setting for Loudoun Elite the previous year. They already had an established setter who set a 5/1 for the team last year. Avery proved her ability to set for a top club by earning more playing time with her consistent setting. As the team tried to get more offense on the right side her setting opportunities increased. Avery greatly contributed to Blue Ridge finishing as one of the top 100 clubs at the 17U age group, allowing her to rise in the rankings from 79 to 46.
At 5’6″ Avery lacks the height to stay in the front row for setting. She will share the setting duties for Heritage with

If not the best setter at the Stock Up Showcase perhaps the most improved setter. As stated in an earlier article she went from setting for a decent club that is getting better to transferring to Blue Ridge , who many consider the third best club in the Chesapeake Region. They also carried a class of 2025 setter who set a 5/1 for them last year and won back to back state championships for her high school, Talk about challenges.
Avery showed her consistency in hitting her spots when setting. That allowed her playing time to increase as the season progressed. She jump sets well, takes control of an offense while displaying a positive attitude on the court. At 5’6″ she is best used running a 6/2. However, it is difficult to find a setter with her consistency so running a 5/1 is always an option.
Blue Ridge will be going to Floride to play in the Premiere Division in AAUs. Heritage will carry two top of the line setters to lead their offense.

She moved from Loudoun Elite to Blue Ridge . Blue Ridge already carried a very good setter in Lauren Hobbs Lauren Hobbs 5'7" | S North Hagerstown | 2025 State VA who set a 5/1 the previous year. The playing time for Avery was limited when I watched her at the start of the season. Towards the end of the season she was setting as part of a 6/2. This gave Blue Ridge an opportunity to use two offensive weapons on the right side.
Avery has improved her setting tremendously since I first saw her play. Her delivery with the jump set is smooth, whether back setting or running the quick tempo sets in the middle. At 5’6″ her height may be small to play the front row but she feeds the hitters well with accuracy and consistent placement.
Blue Ridge 17 earned two USA bids playing in Qualifiers. They turned both down because they will be playing in AAUs. AES put their national ranking at 58. Avery is definitely a setter you want to take a look at if you need someone to run your offense.

I came away impressed with Avery at the National showcase in Las Vegas. She has the soft hands you like to see in a setter. She continued to perform well at our DMV Stock Up showcase in Maryland, earning a top performer award. This bumped her up from 144 to 87 in our 2026 rankings.
She sets for Heritage with
