Expert Analysis
Bob Abels | Prep Dig Scout
Avery seems to improve every time I get a glimpse to watch her play. She played well at the Mid Atlantic Power League (MAPL) as well as the Capitol Hill Classic in DC. Her team finished in third place at Capitol Hill while she was awarded with the best attacker award in the 16 Open Division. That earned her a bump up in the rankings from 55 to 30.
Now the high school season begins with Frank Cox standing out as one of the stronger teams in the Virginia Beach Region. As a sophomore Avery led the team in kills, was second in digs, third in blocks and third in aces. About the only skill she fell short at was set. At 6’0″ she brings an approach jump of 9’5″. As she gains more strength this number should improve. She also enhances her indoor game with a lot of beach play during the summer.

Avery won the best attacker award. Club 757 finished a surprising third in the Capitol Hill Classic. She was the only local player in this age group to take home an award.
At 6’0″ she generates powerful offense at the net. In a 26-24 match win over Blue Ridge at MAPL Avery came through with the game winning kill. She also earned a spot on the Prep Dig all tournament team for the Endless Summer tournament.
A six rotation player who brings a healthy confidence to the court. Another player who appears to be rising to the next level.

A 6’0″ six rotation pin hitter who has a bright future ahead of her. She also enhances her indoor game with a healthy dose of beach volleyball. Even as a sophomore she ranks as the top hitter for Cox, hitting at an impressive .341.
She performed well at the Endless Summer tournament, being named to the Prep Dig All tournament team. Currently, she ranks number 52 in our class of 2027 but it would not surprise me to see that ranking rise.
For Cox she leads the team in kills, ranks second in digs and third in aces and blocks. Her game captures all the skills needed when measuring an impact player.

She carries good height for a pin. For Cox she leads the team in kills. While she ranks number 52 in the class of 2027 this was her debut ranking after watching her dominate at the East Coast Championship with Club 757 . She received the highest debut ranking of the new players added.
She may not crush the ball like many pins but she hits it hard enough to always find the floor. For Cox her hitting percentage sits at .225. She also sits third in digs and second in serve receptions, showing the skills of a six rotation player.

hitting left side. She stood out as their primary offensive piece in their third place finish at the event.
This appeared to be a fundamentally sound team and Avery showed that with her kills. She does not necessarily crush the balls, but she consistently finds empty spots on the floor to create points.
Avery plays for Frank W Cox high school, which always seems prepared for a playoff run.
