About Avni

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I stick with the mentality of 'nothing drops', meaning that no ball goes untouched without effort. I am a competitive player who wants to be challenged and I play with high energy and bring the talk on the court.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a part of Tracy High School Leadership, and earned the role of being Freshman Class President. Having the responsibility of leading class/school events and creating an environment being inclusive and welcoming to everyone has allowed me to grow my leadership skills that apply on and off the court.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Volleyball has grown my skills and qualities. I have learned ways to adapt to different situations quickly under pressure, how to communicate with the court and my team about what is going on and ways to accept the challenge given us. I also gained leadership as in making quick adjustments with my teammates and becoming a captain for the team has taught me how to be a reliable player.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I recently sprained my mcl and patella tendon, causing me to be out half of my school volleyball season. As I am now starting to get back into playing again, I deal with having low self confidence in myself and it is definitely hard trying to forget the fear of hurting my knee again when I play now.

Avni was seriously impressive all throughout the showcase. This backrow boss has crazy good hands, making her perfect for out-of-system setting and overhand passing when needed. Her serve receive was on point, and she pulled off some next-level moves to handle tough serves and get them right to the target. She definitely stood out on the receiving end, but her own serve was just as tough—many players couldn’t handle it.
