About Ayana
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I would describe my gameplay style as a mix of everything, I always try to have tons of energy on the court. I make sure to communicate with my team about open spots or where the ball is going short, deep, zones. I push the pace of the game and always keep my opponents on their toes! I read the game quickly and hit shots like line, cut, cross and tips. If we are down I bring my teammates back up!
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I am a very bubbly person I keep my team up and having fun. I try the best I can by staying positive, resilient and being focused. I help my teammates by helping them stay calm giving them long hug on the court, telling them I love you or our funny personal joke and making a silly face. I have a growth mindset and can take criticism and apply tips or reminders.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
In high school I went to some student council meetings with friends, I also volunteer at the Plainfield public library. I've helped out by making cards for patients and filling bags with plant seeds. At my high school (Plainfield East High School) I helped with the youth volleyball summer camp. I love helping I donate money to the homeless because I believe anyone could get in the situation.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I've developed a leadership role because volunteering really got me out of my shell now I advocate for what I need and my expectations are so much higher for myself. I volunteer to go first in a drill I don't know or to help demo, shag leftover balls or put nets away. My little sister recently started to play volleyball she motivates me to be the best role model for her.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I have faced some challenges, I have sprained each my ankles twice. Those injuries caused me to change my position. I used to be a middle then changed to a right-side after getting hurt and now I'm an outside and now that taught me that I have to do stretches and rubber band work to strengthen my ankles. Those injuries taught me the importance of taking care of my body, resting and getting massage
What type of college are you looking for?
Right now I'm looking for a college with a graphic design, fine arts or education major. The school I choose to go to must have a great well funded volleyball program. Great coaches, and have people that make me feel appreciated and loved. Treat me well, nice girls on the team that I connect with.
