Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
Ferguson is an incredibly clear choice for this feature. She climbed to Premier Nebraska’s 17 Black roster this year and has transformed the team’s backcourt identity. We watched Ferguson run the show for last year’s 16 Red group, and she reached even higher with Elkhorn High School as a junior. She delivered a second-straight season with over 300 total digs, cementing her high standing among Nebraska’s Class B gems. 2026 is adding new chapters to Ferguson’s stock-riser narrative.

Premier Nebraska 17 Black is taking this “newness” theme to another level. This year’s lineup looks a lot different than 2025, and we might as well lead off the conversation with Ferguson. The Elkhorn junior logged another 300-dig prep campaign with the Antlers last fall and proved herself against the state’s best offenses. Ferguson’s ascent continues as she climbs the ladder to Premier Nebraska 17 Black, fortifying the team’s backcourt and serve receive. We lauded the army of defensive specialists on last year’s 16 Red squad, so Ferguson brings a lot of high-level success to the fray.

This year’s Premier Nebraska 15 Red squad gave us no shortage of defensive stars for our 2027 watch list. Ferguson distinguished herself as a ringleader for this group and kept making gains with Elkhorn High School this fall. She averaged 3.7 digs per set for the Antlers and expanded on her big role as a freshman in 2023. Aside from Ferguson’s natural passing and defensive prowess, we’ve also seen her embrace secondary setting duties in out-of-system situations. She has all the tools for a breakout 2025 campaign with Premier 16 Red.

We’re wrapping up with some much-needed libero representation for this feature. Ferguson has donned Elkhorn’s libero jersey since her freshman season, and the sophomore standout has grown increasingly comfortable in her role. She racked up 3.7 digs per set this year–a nearly one dig-per-set increase from Ferguson’s debut season. This 2027 athlete has tested her mettle against the state’s powerhouse high school programs, and she’ll take that experience to the club scene next spring.

Piling up digs in the hard-hitting Class B gauntlet is a difficult task. It’s even harder for first-year players, but Ferguson handled the pressure well last fall. She accumulated about three digs per set in a DS role with the Antlers last fall. Ferguson’s influence will likely increase as she builds off an impressive club campaign with Premier Nebraska. Look for her 2024 numbers to escalate.

Premier Nebraska 15 Red has an impressive list of players who can command the libero position. Ferguson answered the call at GJNC and was a catalyst for the team’s hot start in opening pools. Liberos aren’t often the main source of “hype” for a team, but Ferguson brought plenty of on-court energy in Vegas. Her intensity also shows in the way she tracks down off-speed shots and hard-driven attacks. 15 Red’s backcourt prowess ought to spark future trips to USAV Nationals.

Ferguson earned some valuable reps as a starting DS for Elkhorn last fall. It’s no surprise to see her thriving for Premier 15 Red in a variety of roles. Ferguson’s command of 15 Red’s back row doesn’t waver whether she’s in the libero jersey or playing as a defensive sub. She has the quickness to track down balls and the instincts to put herself in the right place. Ball control could become a significant strength for 15 Red.

Elkhorn trotted out a young lineup in 2023, and Ferguson was an important part of that equation. She finished her first prep season with nearly three digs per set, most of which came in the team’s libero jersey. Competing in the Omaha metro as a freshman libero can be a trial by fire, but Ferguson handled it the whole way. Time to take those defensive skills to Premier Nebraska for the club season.
