Upward is tough to prepare for because she finds a number of different ways to put balls down. She can smack hard ones to the back row and is not afraid to tip to shallow side lines if she sees the opening. Upward can take solid swings from the back row and makes things happen when the team is out of system. Upward sets her feet to make quality passes and has a nice line drive serve.
