About Charley

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Team Player. Passionate. I am vocal but not the most vocal on the court. I am confident but not cocky.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I love being a team player. I never want to let my coaches or team down and that’s what drives me. When I'm on the court, I want to win. I'm serious and focused. When I'm off the court, I'm a different person. I'm fun, silly, and playful. I try to keep that on the court but with a lot more focus. I lock in when I'm on the court.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I created a group that donates underwear (the most needed item every year) to a local non profit, James Storehouse, serving kids in foster care. Our family does an adopt a family program we created for at least 1 local family.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Starting as a freshman on varsity in high school I stayed pretty quiet. Just did my job on the court. This year as a sophomore I’ve enjoyed growing as a leader in the court, in huddles and getting my team out of their heads even when we are down.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My biggest challenge has been trying to remember it’s not all on me. We are a team and if we are losing that we are losing as a team. ALSO, During CIF championships in my 24/25 high school year, a girl came under the net and I landed on her fracturing and spraining my ankle. I played through the game, we won. We moved on and I played and we won again. I just wanted to play but had to heal.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college that is not too academically challenging since my dyslexia has provided some struggles at the highest academic level but I always work hard, try hard and get my work done. I want an education but want to set myself up for success while playing a high level of volleyball with other players who love the sport as much as I do.
