Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
Carlstrom has fit right into the growing South Central NE juggernaut. She helped 16 Black secure a second consecutive podium finish at USAV Nationals and expanded her range as a frontcourt attacker. Carlstrom’s prep career with High Plains Community has revealed her do-everything approach on the volleyball court. She can step aside from her attacking role to set the offense if needed. This is a positive contributor no matter what role she’s in, and we can’t wait to see Carlstrom’s resume expand as a senior.

The Class of 2025 is represented here, too! Carlstrom slots into one of South Central NE’s opposite positions but gives the squad a lot more than that. Her setting background has paid dividends at GJNC, as Carlstrom can quickly turn into a secondary signal-caller in out-of-system situations. We’ve even seen Carlstrom score on dump attacks on the second contact, even while she’s not the designated setter in the starting lineup. South Central NE’s scouting report keeps expanding.

South Central NE 16 Black is arguably the most formidable club team in the small-town Nebraska scene. Carlstrom has become a key cog in that lineup with her quick arm at the right-side hitter spot. Her ever-evolving role with High Plains Community has also been fascinating, as Carlstrom exhibited her versatility as a setter and a hitter. That versatility allowed Carlstrom to flourish at our showcase, and GJNC is next on the docket.

Carlstrom was mentioned in our South Central NE bid feature, but she also belongs here after her impactful tenure in Kansas City. This right-side hitter showed some game-changing power for 16 Black, giving the team a reliable in-system option behind the setter. South Central NE repeated its bid triumph from 2023 and is growing even stronger with more high-level reps.

Carlstrom has garnered recognition here for her do-anything attitude for High Plains Community. She has carried roles as a setter and an opposite while thriving at both. Her tenure at the Top 250 Expo was geared more toward her terminal arm in the front row. Carlstrom’s assertive style produced 3.2 kills per set this year–by far the best mark of her career. Regardless of which position suits Carlstrom in the future, we know she will always be a threat to score along the net.

It’s hard to put a single label on Carlstrom’s role with High Plains Community. She’s just a great all-around player. Carlstrom spent most of her underclassman years playing setter for the Storm, and she had no problem racking up impressive numbers at that position. Now, as a junior, Carlstrom is embracing more of a full-time attacking role and has tallied three kills per set in 2023. The move is paying off.

Carlstrom is another one of those unique setter-hitters to make this feature. It’s hard to say for sure which role may take precedence for Carlstrom this year when she competes with High Plains Community, but it might be a little bit of both. This high-flying junior knows how to take over matches in almost any manner imaginable.

Like Chvatal, Carlstrom put herself on the map with an impressive outing at our Prep Dig Showcase last December. She then picked up where she left off with another strong spring campaign with South Central NE, a club that has brought some of Nebraska’s best small-town standouts to the forefront.
