So Goessel’s Dureksen has the versatility to be used as an attacker, but I owe her one, so I will include her in the report of defensive maestros. She is in the class of 2028, not the class of 2029, even though she is still listed as a freshman on some public websites, but I keep forgetting. She tallied 346 digs, 418 serve receptions, and 416 kills in her sophomore campaign. I have no idea if she can hit the high note or not, but she is a highlight reel in the making. I have a sneaky suspicion that most college coaches will see her as a defense-first utility hitter at the next level. She is ranked No. 46 overall by Prep Dig Kansas.

The Goessel Bluebirds landed in the No. 5 position in the Class 1A-DI rankings. Duersken is ranked No. 33 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. She finished her freshman season with 219 kills and 376 digs as freshman for the Bluebirds. Defending state champion Little River is the top-ranked team in this division by the KVA. I am picking the Centralia Panthers to win the state title in this division.

This time of year, as a fan of the Chicago Cubs, the bird I watch the closest is the Cardinal. However. Goessel has a young Bluebird athlete to watch closely the next couple of years. Duerksen had a solid freshman season for the Bluebirds. She finished with freshman season stat line that included 219 kills, 376 digs, and 82 aces. She is a young talent I wish would reach out as I have not been able to locate a HUDL account or an X account of hers. She is ranked No. 33 in the Kansas Class of 2028.
