Who doesn’t like a left-handed setter? Avey has emerged as a stout setter prospect in the Wichita area, most recently representing KNVBC’s top 17s group. Her resilience was tested after returning from injury, but Avey’s showcase performance proved she’s back to form. Bishop Carroll has soared to a 5-2 record behind Avey’s team-leading assist total and her ever-present aggression in the frontcourt. The Golden Eagles won’t be afraid to deploy Avey as a right-side attacker if needed, and she has all the physicality needed to square up at the net.

It was good to see Avey moving well after recovering from an ACL injury. She continues to show that she is a force on the court after running a 5-1 at Nationals. She has a high volleyball IQ, and as a southpaw, she can be very deceptive with her one-handed attacks on the second ball.

Bishop Carroll is ranked No. 7 overall in the Class 5A KVA rankings. Avey is ranked No. 75 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027. She played 33 sets at the varsity level, recording 77 assists, 23 kills, and 12 aces as a sophomore. The Golden Eagles lost two key seniors off last season’s roster, and Avey has the versatility to be used at multiple positions. St. Thomas Aquinas earned the top spot in the KVA rankings and is the defending state champs. I am going out on a limb and predict that the preseason No. 5-ranked Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders will win the 5A state title.
