Ellie Chu is a disciplined and steady presence on the court. Defensively, she does not cheat the game. She stays home, holds her base, and commits to the correct position instead of releasing too early. That patience allows her to read the play and react quickly. She is fast to the ball and consistently puts herself in position to make a playable second contact.

As a setter, Ellie makes smart and efficient decisions. She understands tempo and does a great job distributing the ball to keep her offense balanced. Her communication with hitters stands out. She is vocal, clear, and intentional, which builds trust and helps her spread her offense effectively. Her court awareness and discipline make her a reliable leader on the floor.

Please officially welcome Miss Chu to the State Rankings.  She is currently ranked as the 53^rd best overall player according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings.  She plays at Polytechnic High School and for the Mizuno Long Beach volleyball club program.  Watching Ellie sprint off the net to track down a ball and then be able to jump off of one foot while jump setting and also turn in mid-air to deliver a perfect set to the left side pin is like watching a ballet dancer perform a routine.  Her movements are truly that graceful on the volleyball court.  The ball just pops off of her hands so fast as it is delivered.  That speed is crucial for her offense to exploit splits in the block.  After lots of evaluation and her leading her team to an Open level bid to USAV Junior Nationals, it was a no brainer to include her in the list.  Please help us congratulate her on her achievement of being listed in our State Rankings. 

Ellie Chu is one of the most consistent setters I have seen on the circuit, showcasing exceptional skills and a calm, composed presence on the court. Her ability to seamlessly run her team’s offense is a testament to her strong understanding of the game and her strategic mindset. I first saw Ellie play on her high school court for Poly, where she effortlessly directed her team’s offense with precision and ease. Her excellent court vision and decision-making abilities make her a standout player who can elevate the performance of her teammates.

Ellie is taking her recruiting process at her own pace, as she is undecided about the area of study she wants to pursue. She has aspirations of possibly joining the medical field to become a doctor or specializing in California real estate. This openness to exploring different career paths is indicative of her thoughtful approach to her future, allowing her to keep her options open while focusing on her development both on and off the court.

For athletes her age, having a clear life direction should be more of an evolving idea rather than a fixed decision. Ellie’s maturity and foresight in this regard reflect her balanced approach to life, understanding the importance of both her academic and athletic pursuits. This balance is crucial for success in collegiate athletics, where time management and prioritization are key.

Ellie’s consistency, adaptability, and strategic thinking make her an exciting prospect for college coaches. Her ability to maintain composure under pressure and effectively lead her team will be invaluable assets to any program.
