Gernstein gives us a Central Nebraska star for this feature. The Grand Island Senior High middle blocker burst into the starting lineup last fall and became fully acquainted with big-time Class A volleyball. This has put Gernstein in a position to thrive with Nebraska Juniors 17 Black, a team with no shortage of frontcourt physicality. When 17 Black needs a positive block touch or a transition option, Gernstein is always ready to operate in the ‘A’ gap. Orlando’s 17 Premier division will be an excellent proving ground for many of Nebraska Juniors’ best athletes.

We expected Gernstein to enter the spotlight with Grand Island this fall, and that’s exactly what happened. She had an impactful 2024 club season with Nebraska Juniors while terminating a high clip in the middle. When a void opened up in the Grand Island lineup, Gernstein stepped in and dropped a triple-digit kill total for the Islanders. Her steady presence lifted GISH to its first state semifinal appearance since 2007, so there’s soaring optimism for Gernstein’s upcoming club season with Nebraska Juniors 17 Black.

She is poised for a breakout with Grand Island after the Islanders made a long-awaited trip to last year’s Class A postseason. Gernstein trekked even farther than the Lincoln-to-Omaha trip we just mentioned. The Grand Island Senior High middle blocker was a prominent performer in the middle during our positional drills and live scrimmages. The 2026 is building off a strong campaign with Nebraska Juniors and was a shutdown blocker for 16 Black. 2023 was a historic fall season for the Islanders, and Gernstein can help keep the good times rolling.
