About Emily

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a very competitive person and push myself to do well in everything I do. My motto is if the set is good, swing big, if the set of off, swing in. I stay adaptable, giving my all whether attacking, playing defense, or supporting my teammates. I aim to be the reliable player that my team can trust to put a ball down offensively, or keep it up defensively.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I always try to stay positive and uplift my teammates. While I am competitive, I have learned to focus on one point at a time, not get stuck in my mistakes, and to surrender the outcome and only focus on what can be controlled. This helps me play with confidence, which I use to lead by example. I celebrate every win, no matter how small, and I’ve learned what my teammates need from me to succeed.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I just got accepted into the National Honor Society, where I plan to run for office senior year! I volunteer at A Precious Child when I can, and currently have two jobs. I coach gymnastics, am a lifeguard at a water park, and plan to get a job in retail or the coffee industry!

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Coming from gymnastics, volleyball really taught me how to work on a team and communicate. I have learned that every person is different, in their play and what motivates them, and have found ways to support each person. I have also learned to lead, both by staying loud and leading by example. My jobs have definitely taught me patience and discipline.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

It was definitely hard to switch from an individual sport to a team sport, but I feel that it has helped me in so many ways with teamwork, communication, and leadership.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college with a supportive team culture, strong athletics and academics, a good architecture program, balanced academic and athletic focus, and opportunities for leadership. While I would prefer somewhere warmer location wise, I am more focused on finding the right fit for me, no matter the location.
