About Emily

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I believe that reading and anticipating are the foundation of a strong defense. I focus on clean passes to set up the offense and love the challenge of covering the court. Hustle and staying low are key for me— keeping the ball alive!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’d say I’m pretty determined and competitive, and also really supportive of my teammates. I always push myself to give 100% in every practice and game, and I’m not afraid to get scrappy if it means saving a point. I love being the one my team can rely on for defense, and I try to stay calm and focused under pressure. At the same time, I keep the energy up and make sure everyone’s hyped up.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I co-founded Blanket Dreams with my u14 teammates. Blanket Dreams supports kids impacted by abuse and abandonment. I'm involved in the Marine Bio Club, Aquines Kindness, and Paws Club at school. I support ENALH, a non-profit, in its mission to support veterans who are at risk of being homeless. I'm also a part of the Special Olympics Club, organizing marathons for people with disabilities.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I'm taking leadership in school and it's helped me develop talking to others with confidence and assertiveness. I've been working on my mental part of the game and I've gotten a lot better at just relaxing and having fun instead of being stressed.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have faced multiple setbacks in volleyball and life overall. Getting cut from my high school team and going as a practice player was a challenge. Having to just accept that and go back to the gym as a practice player was hard.

What type of college are you looking for?

The type of college I'm looking for is a school that is in a college town or has a lot of school culture. My school needs to offer classes for science like Marine Biology, biology, and medicine.
