About Erin

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I constantly try to read the court, whether it's the gap in between the block, the tip or the middle attack, I want to go after everything. The split step is a big part of my game and I use it during digging and serve receive because it helps heavily with my reaction time! When playing, my main goal is "up" to give my teammates more opportunities even if it's only extending the rally by 2 seconds.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Even after long tournaments or practice all I can think about is how much I want to play more. People sometimes ask me, "Aren't you tired?" but whenever I'm playing I have so much fun that time passes by so fast. Whether it's talking to my teammates, digging or going after a ball that's 10 miles away, I love every part of it and it fuels me to work even harder.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I'm currently taking 3 AP classes and I have A's in all of them. I'm involved in many different clubs and recently join the filipino student union club and plan to perform to represent my culture! I've also been involved in a volunteer club since my freshman year and have been constantly getting my hours in trying to go to every event possible.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Volleyball has helped me develop skills mentally and physically. From volleyball, I've learned how to use my voice, develop a stronger work ethic and trust in myself. Mentally, I trust all the work I've put into volleyball and how I can incorporate it into the game without feeling negative thoughts.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have faced significant challenges in the past mentally with struggling in believing myself. I felt the need to meet a certain standard of needing to be perfect and make no mistakes but I've realized that volleyball is a game of mistakes and you're bound to make one. Mistakes help me understand what I need to work on and how I can improve for next time, helping me become a better player/person.

What type of college are you looking for?

I want a college near the coast. I am looking for good academics and volleyball but overall I'm looking to see where I feel like I belong. I want to have a good team dynamic, a competitive environment and feel supported on and off the court.
