About Finley

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay style is quick tempo. I like to mix up where I go with my sets and I love to set against the flow to optimize a single block for my hitters. I have a no-quit mindset when it comes to chasing down balls and have been known to dive over the bench, other players, etc to make a play. I'm working on becoming more of an offensive threat as a setter, too. My skill set is geared towards libero

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I play with a combination of humility and mental toughness. I know that volleyball is a game of errors/mistakes and I don't dwell on mistakes when they happen but instead look to making the next play. I am team focused and serious on the court and love to celebrate the success of those around me to keep the momentum going. I know how to balance focus and fun.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

National Honor Society inductee as a Freshman in High School. Faith family leader in school. Student Council representative 7th-10th grade. Straight A Honor Roll all through High School.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Being a faith family leader has helped develop my leadership skills. My school is very focused on community service and I often volunteer at school/church functions as well as through other community organizations. Being a starter on Varsity in both Basketball and Volleyball since 8th grade has slowly helped my find my voice as a leader and team player.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I battled an ankle injury this fall during a volleyball game and i had to sit out of two games. It was hard to not be on the floor, but it also allowed another setter to step in get some valuable experience. It helped me to see the game from a different perspective.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college in the upper midwest region that potentially has a nursing program as that's what I'm leaning towards as a major. I would love to play for a team in the NSIC. I want the college to be within a reasonable driving distance from my home in East Grand Forks because my family is really important to me. Preferably a distance no greater than 8 hours. A fun sports atmosphere!
