About Gabriela

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm small, but fast! My game play stands out as you will definitely hear me on the court calling the seams and cheering on my teammates! I bring confidence and a positive energy from the back court. I am steady and reliable on serve-receive and anticipate the ball to make key digs. I love being on the court, I love playing volleyball, and I love leading the cheers for my team.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a never give up mentality. If I shank a ball, I pump myself up and just tell myself that I can get the next one and make sure to open up more. In general I have a positive mental approach and try to visualize what I see myself doing to keep my mind focused and positive. I also bring this positive mental approach to my team in encouraging them if they make a mistake and cheering for them.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I volunteer for a Peruvian NGO that helps children in the province of Arequipa, Peru that are suffering from cancer. I help organize the gift boxes that we give to each family to try and bring some happiness in their difficult time.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I was named to the EXACT 11 Watchlist for volleyball in recognition of my leadership and team work on the court.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Yes, I had to move to Africa when I was 10 years old and had to adjust to a new way of life with just my mom. Then COVID hit and I had to be evacuated from Africa and was separated from my mom for eight months. I was lucky to be with my grandparents and aunt, uncle, and cousins, but I missed my mom.

What type of college are you looking for?

I would like a college with small class sizes and an environment that feels like a family. My parents are diplomats and they will be overseas when I go to college so I would like to find a college environment where I feel that I'm part of a community and family.
