A defender’s job becomes considerably easier when the feet solve the problem before the platform has to, and Gabi Comey is already showing promising habits in that area. Comey navigates the back row efficiently, working into seams and occupying gaps before the ball reaches the floor. That mobility gives the DS/L an opportunity to play contacts from a more balanced position rather than reaching after them at the last second. Once behind the volleyball, Comey establishes an angled platform capable of producing both two- and three-option passes. That’s an important distinction.
