Shelton’s never-give-up attitude was embodied by Willis’ play at the libero position. She logged over 30 digs during the absolute slugfest with Central Valley, producing several thrilling rallies in tense moments. Willis also brought a steady platform to the serve-receive pattern and allowed the Bulldog “big guns” to go to work. The end result was a dramatic five-set win that tested the resolve and resilience of the defending D2 champs.

The defending Class D2 champs are looking for another trip to the mountaintop–now in Class D1. We know how well Shelton can score, but don’t overlook Willis’ tireless effort in the libero jersey. The junior defender has doubled her statistical production from last year with 4.7 digs per set as the leading Bulldog DS. Willis consistently generates pinpoint digs to feed Shelton’s outstanding transition offense. This operation has yielded a 20-3 record and another climb in the wildcard standings. New class, same results.

Shelton High School is eager to reach powerhouse status after the school’s first state volleyball triumph last fall. Willis has helped maintain the Bulldogs’ high standards with a whopping 5.1 digs per set in the backcourt. She is on pace to surpass her dig total from last year before we reach October–a colossal accomplishment for one of Shelton’s most promising 2027s. The school’s current senior class draws a lot of attention, but don’t forget about Willis carrying the banner for the juniors.

We’ve heralded Shelton’s enviable group of attackers, but let’s give credit to those holding down the end line. Willis is generating over three digs per set for the Bulldogs to help set up the team’s high-powered offense. Of course, the sophomore libero also produces pinpoint passes that can’t be measured in a box score. Ball control will be the key to Shelton living up to its preseason hype.
