About Halima

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm a MB at SC-Rockstar and OH at Vistamar School who is as relentless during each play, as I am off the court. While on my club team I'm an agile middle that can play out of system and get on the floor, I have also played all rotations on varsity since my fresh year at VM. I train on the beach and strength train for both pos year-round because I love the game and it shows during every play.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Teachers and coaches know I'm focused, self-disciplined, creative, studious, and loving, who puts family first, then studies & team. I use my out of class and off court time carefully, programming my own training. My GPA at a rigorous school taking two honors and two APs, playing school and club VB, starting center on V. basketball & play club + school beach vb. I also lead in the classroom.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am 4.1 GPA student at Vistamar High School that was just inducted into the Spanish Honor Society and club in January. Between Freshman and Sophomore years, I went to Georgetown University to study medical careers and public health. At VM, I am part of the Black Student Union. I earn money for volleyball dues and travel babysitting and baking.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Both Fresh/Soph seasons Vistamar I was selected for ALL-CIF and League 1st Team, Fall Sports MVP, and school wide Female Teammate of the year as a freshman. Before HS I had not yet lead on club much, but learned to be led. I had to hone my leadership skills as a young HS player, finding my voice and on-court energy, which earned more than awards. Hopefully, it fueled our playoff run too!

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

During fresh year I developed a form of over-use tendonitis from jumping & landing in my right knee. I had many emotions during X-rays, MRIs and orthopedic visits, wondering if my career was over so soon. But I became a student of my physical therapists during each visit, so I developed routines for pre&post training care, and training to building muscle. Now, I am free of tendonitis and pain!

What type of college are you looking for?

I plan to attend a top tier academic institution with a well-respected Bio-Med program and highly competitive volleyball program, that will set me up for medical school. I am open to attending any state because I would like to experience the world. Team and school culture are important to me, in addition to an institution with a strong values and practices related to social justice.
