About Hana

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my style as dynamic with a high volleyball IQ. I love to spread the ball around so that other teams doesn't know what's coming. I work hard at being unpredictable. My job is to make my hitters look good, and my favorite part is getting the celebrate them!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am a 13 year old playing on a 15 Open team who just finished second place in the country at nationals! I put in lots of extra time in the gym perfecting my craft. I have spent this last year getting stronger physically in order to continue to compete at a very high level.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I was elected Klein ISD Student Representative for Krimmel Junior High, I was also elected to Hero's academy which a leadership council at our school. I am the secretary for Knights for Christ. In elementary school I was the student body president.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Being the "quarterback" for the team with girls that are almost 2 years older than me for the last 5 years has really grown my leadership skills. Everyone on a team is valuable and I like to work hard to make others shine. I volunteer at church in kids ministry and every summer I go on mission trips to serve my community.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Yes! The day after my 13th birthday I tore my ACL. Like one of my coaches said - There is no testimony without a test! My faith is stronger than it's ever been and I'm so grateful for my family, friends, coaches and trainers who have helped me come back stronger than I was before.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking to play D1 volleyball at a place that feels like family. I have been at Skyline since I was nine years old, so I know what it is to play for the best and with the best. I still have lots of time but I'm so excited to play at the next level someday.

Penberthy played for the Houston Skyline 15 Royal team that ranked first in the event with three wins and no sets dropped. Vastly recognized as one of the top setters in the state in her age group, she performed as so and led her team to a dominant campaign with her consistent game and superior volleyball IQ. Always very accurate with her location, Penberthy was brilliant with her distribution, consistently getting her hitters to swing 1v1 at the pins. She was also very aggressive with her setter dumps, which should actually be called setter swings, as she turned her body entirely to the opposite side of the net and unleashed it with her left arm. The setter also stood out with her incredible all-around game, performing well with her blocking at the net and from the service line and when playing defense on the back row.
