Expert Analysis
Bob Abels | Prep Dig Scout
The last two years Iris has set a 5/1 for Thomas Jefferson. The school is noted for its high educational standards. To attend the school you have to pass some rigorous tests to qualify. Attracting talented volleyball players is not their priority.
Iris is one of those exceptions in that she has the intelligence to attend the school and she brings to the school excellent volleyball skills. She is a quality setter that has been able to get the school into the Regional playoffs the last couple years. Last year they lost in the quarter finals of the Regionals.
This club season Iris takes her setting from Paramount to Virginia Elite. She sets a 6/2 for Virginia Elite. She plays excellent defense, standing her ground on some of the hardest hits. She also runs an offense well. Her small stature and lack of a vertical (less than 9 feet) restricts her to back row setting for Virginia Elite.

Iris earned the starting setter job for Thomas Jefferson as a frosh setting a 5/1. She continues that as a sophomore. In addition to leading the team in assists she also leads the team in aces. For Virginia Elite she normally sets a 6’2″. Her 5’7″ height in the front row is a bit undersized.
The previous season she had set for the Paramount second team. After watching her I came away impressed with her defense for the position. She stands her ground well and can pop up some of the hardest hits.

For high school last year, she set a 5/1. For Paramount she shares the setting duties with

who also appears on the list below. They finished second in the Volley by the James tournament to their first team.
As a frosh, Iris led her high school in assists and aces. This earned her a spot on the first team in the National District. Her accomplishments also earned her a spot in my dazzling dozen for 2028.
This ranking puts her at number four for the setters in the class of 2028.

Last year she set a 5/1 as a frosh for a competitive Thomas Jefferson team. She led the team in serving aces and assists while also finishing third in digs. She also set well at the Prep Dig Expo in August.
This year she will set for the Paramount second team. Last year she set for them and they qualified for the Junior Nationals in Las Vegas. They were the only second team to do that in Virginia. She also earned a spot on the 14U DMV All tournament team for Las Vegas.
She needs to work on those quick tempo sets in the middle, something I did not see her do much with Thomas Jefferson.

She started as a frosh setting a 5/1 for Thomas Jefferson High. At 5’7″ she is a bit undersized to block in the front row. However, because her setting is so accurate the Colonials sacrifice blocking to improve hitting efficiency. She also led the team in service aces, which would indicate a powerful serve.
Iris is one of two setters for Paramount 15 Cruz. She will share the setting responsibilities with Amanda Dadio, another participant in the DMV Prep Dig 250 Expo. Last year she set for the 14 second team and helped them earn a spot in the Junior Nationals, a pretty high achievement for a second team.
Iris came into the DMV Prep Dig Expo unranked. My guess is she will make her debut somewhere in the rankings when they are updated in January.

Last year Iris set for Paramount . As a frosh standing only 5’6″ the coach puts a lot of confidence in the setter to run the 5/1. Iris not only does her job with setting, but she leads the team in aces and ranks third in digs.
Last year Iris set her team to a bid in the USAV nationals. She still needs to work on many aspects of the game, especially the quickness of the varsity game where she plays with girls three years older than her.
