Expert Analysis
Guilherme Torres | Prep Dig Scout
One of the top middles in the region in her age group, Jones moved from Frisco Flyers to Drive Nation 17 Red, strengthening what already was one of the best teams in the area. She’s a middle that contributes on both sides of the ball and the impact made by her blocking goes far beyond what the stats tell as, besides getting a handful of stops every match, Jones also does very well when it comes to getting touches and turning powerful swings into easy digs for the players behind her. She’s a prolific offensive player too, using her length and arm power to score consistently down the middle.

Wakeland continues to roll in the playoffs as the Wolverines started the postseason by extending their current winning streak to 21 matches with a sweep of Memorial. Despite the somewhat short match, star middle Jones had more than enough time to put on a stellar performance, hitting at .524 to produce 11 kills and controlling the net with five blocks.

Because Jones has played in just 82 sets this season, her total block points of 136 might not be at the very top of the state, but, perhaps most importantly, her average of 1.6 per set, which was boosted by a 13-block performance against McKinney back in August, certainly is. The 6’2″ middle has been a reliable contributor at the net for Wakeland and although her size certainly doesn’t hurt, it’s her blocking technique that sets her apart. Jones keeps her arms down while moving, as several beach players do, and then pushes them above the net, taking up a lot of space from opposing hitters while also directing them into the center of the court, making it more difficult for her block to be tooled.

A dynamic and reliable prospect, Jones has been a solid presence in the middle for Wakeland. The 6’2″ prospect is very well-versed in the two areas of the game a middle needs to thrive – hitting and blocking. Her offense is very diversified and her ability to stop opponents at the net is among the best in the entire state. She leads the Wolverines’ blocking efforts with 64 points and is the team’s third most effective hitter with 72 kills.
