About Jordyn
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I am an outside and right side that is known for bringing a lot of energy on the court. I have good coverage at the net and always look to make smart offensive decisions. I have powerful hit and make adjustments to swing for a variety of sets. I love being a reliable hitter that my team can count on.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I have a strong “next ball” mentality and learned not to dwell on mistakes. I use imagery to help me prepare for games because I’ve learned being mentally prepared to compete is just as important as my technical and physical skills. I like being around good energy, so I try to bring positive vibes to others on and off the court.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
In 8th grade, I was a part of the National Junior Honor Society(NJHS) where I helped with community service and school events. I was promoted from middle school with high academic and citizenship marks. I am an active member of the Ypsilanti Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. In my free time I also volunteer with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I have developed strong leadership and teamwork skills through volleyball and group projects. I’ve learned how to communicate well, stay positive, and handle pressure with a resilient mindset. I’ve also become more responsible and involved in my community through volunteering in school events. When time permits I also referee games and coach younger volleyball players.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
One challenge I faced is moving multiple times to different states as a child. Having to start over and make new friends each time was very difficult. However, this challenge helped me grow as a person, be adaptable and become more confident in who I am. I’ve learned to stay true to myself by being more comfortable with who I am no matter where I am or who I’m around.
What type of college are you looking for?
I’m looking for an attend a college and play volleyball in a Mid Major, Division I or a Division II school that has a strong academic and competitive volleyball program. At this time I have interest in nursing and pre-law because want a career where I can have a long term impact in the lives of others.
