About June

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My name is June Johnson and I am a 2027 OH/OP from Webster Groves, MO. Im a 6-rotation player, primarily an OH but also like hitting on RS. As an attacker, I have worked on having a variety of shots to hit (still working on it). As a blocker and defender, I'm learning to read hitters better and have improved that part of my game. Overall, I love the game and am very competitive.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I like to have fun on and off the court. Volleyball is a very mental sport and I like to make sure I am giving my teammates good energy and not taking energy away. My dad tells me all the time that mistakes are part of the game. I try to let them go and focus on the next play. It's something I try to work on in practice too.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I was nominated by our middle school principal to attend a week-long summer leadership seminar; at the end, I received the Webster University Middle School Academy Scholarship to attend Webster University. (1 semester valued at $20,000)

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

At Nerinx Hall, we complete service hours every semester and this year I completed my service hours at T.A.S.K. (Team Activities for Special Kids). It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed working with the kids. I'm also my classes representative for our Neighborhood at Nerinx Hall.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I had a close friend recently pass away from brain cancer. It was really hard because it was so sudden. I'm still dealing with it, but getting a little better ever day.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm not sure yet. I've been looking at D3 & D2 schools. I hope to find a school that challenges me academically and where I can also play volleyball.
