About Kalia

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my gameplay style as energetic and joyful. I am a great communicator and leader on my team, and I always have something positive to say to my teammates to lift them up. I always have something positive to say towards all of them. You can always hear my voice on the court.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality is that if you work hard, you can always achieve your goals. My personality is that I am very friendly and kind to everyone. I will lift up and encourage everyone, on or off the court. I am a good teammate to everyone. I like to see my teammates happy!

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am the VP of Philanthropy with NCL (National Charity League - a mother / daughter community service organization). I received an award for serving 25+ hours in my community last year, and have already served over 30 hours this year. I am also in NJHS through my school. I have a 4.0 GPA in all honors classes, and I have received the Lion Pride award 3 times for high academic achievement.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

There are many leadership, teamwork, and servant lead qualities I have developed through both volleyball and serving my community. I know how to get along well with people and lead them to a common goal through constant communication and working together. I've enjoyed leading by example with being a junior coach to my little brothers coed rec and 12u boys club teams to share my love of the game.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I fractured my growth plate in my ankle in November last season and was out for two months. When I returned, I had to fight to earn my spot on the court back. It was a very humbling experience, but I am better for it. I worked hard, and I've learned through experience that hard work pays off and to never give up. I had the highest hitting % in 3rd sets and became an impact player for my team.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for high academic schools with a great volleyball program. I would like to play for a college that prioritizes community service, academics, and treating the team like family. I am looking for a school that celebrates hard work, dedication, and love for the game.
