About Kanaiya

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a left-handed setter who can also be an offensive threat at the net when necessary. I step up to the plate to perform under pressure and try to be aggressive and tactical with my offensive choices. I am an energetic and competitive player and push my teammates as well as hold myself accountable while competing.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m known for my strong work ethic, leadership on the court, and high volleyball IQ. I take pride in being a student of the game, constantly improving my skills and understanding team systems while trying to help my team compete at a high level.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in several high school clubs on campus such as CAF club, Sports Med Club, Pen Pal Club, AVID Club, Student Athlete-Advisory Committee, BBQ Club, Black Student Union, as well as a Sports Med/Kinesiology Intern.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have learned to communicate effectively and gain interpersonal skills with more than just my peers. Through experiences I have learned how to deal with adversities and how to cooperate with others while working towards the same goals. Through community service I have learned how to be humble and grateful for all that I have.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Two years ago I dislocated my shoulder at a tournament qualifier and had to sit out for a month. This injury was mentally tough on me when I went through rehab and recovery. Since then, I have made it a priority to rehab and prepare myself physically and mentally on a daily basis to help prevent injury and staying healthy while playing.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college that is diverse. A college that provides helpful resources for academics as well as a coaching staff that provides support for each player as an individual. I would like to be able to grow in this environment on and off the court.
