Smith (pictured) won the Bullitt Central Cougar Challenge Tournament Most Valuable Player honors with a nice performance Saturday. Smith has hit targets with her setting better this fall and it has shown as three Commanderettes have triple-digit kills. Smith can do a variety of sets including back sets and has a deceptive setover. Smith sends good serves to different parts of the court. Smith shoves balls hard to corners on second hits. Smith has more than 500 assists on the season.

Smith’s setting has come a long way since the high school season. Smith is doing a better job hitting the setting targets, including ones to the back row. She mixes in back sets and setter dumps to keep teams from guessing where balls are going. Smith sends good shots to the corners. Smith has a hard, sinking line drive serve that paints the lines for aces. Smith said the Bourbon City 15 National coaching staff has worked with her on leadership and setting to more specific targets.

Smith turned into a beacon of hope for the Commanderettes during a tough season emerging as the setter. Smith sets up her teammates well and earns a number of kills on setter dumps, even surprising opponents with pushes to the far corner. Smith is not afraid to dive after balls defensively and lands big kills when needed. Smith had 228 assists, 149 digs and 21 aces for Washington County this past fall.
