Kathryn Wagener
About Kathryn
Expert Analysis
Bob Abels | Prep Dig Scout
Kathryn brings smooth hands and good location for setting. She runs the Generals offense operating a 5/1. Her game could be enhanced with more velocity on her serve and incorporating a jump set into her game.
Lots of potential for this class of 2027 setter. The jump set will give her the ability to attack when in the front row but also draw the middle or right side up for the block when she sets from the back row. It is also easier for the middle to hit the quicks when the hands are higher. The downside is that it may take some work to find that consistency in location that she currently has with the standing set.
Only a sophomore so there is plenty of time for her to work on her game.

Watched her play at the Clash of the Titans and was really impressed with her defense. She also set a 5/1. For the Generals she also plays a little point guard for their basketball team, where she earned a spot on the second and all rookie team.
Playing basketball did not prevent her from playing travel volleyball where she set for Loudoun Elite . Her athleticism allows her to make plays other setters fall short from executing. She just needs more experience., Kathryn now lists her height at 5’9″.
Look for the Generals to take a step forward this coming year.

I got to see her play at the clash of the Titans. She played a tremendous defense and set a 5/1. The Generals carried two frosh on their roster who played critical roles in their season. Left side Evelyn Donovan Evelyn Donovan OH Washington-Liberty | 2027 VA was a recipient of many of Kathryn’s sets. With those two the Generals have a bright future.
