About Kayla

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would consider my gameplay strategic and intentional. Focusing on strong communication with my teammates and having a team first mentality. I strive to have a positive attitude regardless of the game situation and keep up moral and motivation for the team. I adapt quickly to different game situations and focus on learning the opponent and tendencies.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a very outgoing personality, and I am known as a people person. I consider my team my family, when I’m on the court I have a very strong desire to win and create team success by leaving everything on the court every time. I consider myself to be very mentally strong and it is tough to get in my head.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am part of student council at my high school and am currently part of a club called HOSA, which stands for Health Occupation Students of America for future health professionals.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Developing skills and good qualities is something that never stops, and truly starts with the support and guidance I get from my parents. Being a former competitive dancer and transitioning into volleyball has helped me develop a strong sense of what it’s like to be on a team and teamwork. It has also helped me develop a strong sense of leadership and the want to continually improve and do better

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One challenge I have faced is my dad coaching at the same club I play for. Although he is not a coach for my team it always felt like I was looked at differently and held to a higher standard. Through hard work, consistency and on-court success, that is something I no longer feel and has also helped me become the player I am today.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college that will help me reach my academic goals, while preparing me for life after college and volleyball. I also want a college that is aligned with my goals and values.
