We are continuously taken aback by Overton’s pipeline of setter talent. Elgren took the reins last year and immediately soared to nine assists per set for the Eagles. That effort yielded another trip to the state tournament–a storyline that repeated itself in 2025. We’re always drawn to setters that aren’t afraid to take risks and force their middles while off the net, and that’s exactly what Elfgren gives to the Overton lineup. She knows when to find the hot hitter when the situation demands it.

Small-town setters are soaring. Elfgren has maintained Overton’s high standards after the school’s long-awaited title breakthrough in 2023. The Eagles sit atop the current Class D1 standings and have leaned on their junior setter throughout this year’s 22-2 campaign. Elfgren has dished 9.3 assists per set in her second season in the full-time starting role. Aside from her ability to put hitters in great positions, Elfgren also contributes to Overton’s vaunted defense in the right-back area. Elfgren and her team know the route to Lincoln.

We’re revisiting another one of last year’s Class D2 tournament contenders. Overton High School entered 2024 with plenty of question marks after losing several transformative athletes from 2023’s championship squad. Elfgren helped this transition process and maintained Overton’s high standards as a title threat. Her nine assists per set ranked among the best marks for Nebraska sophomores, and expectations remain the same for Year 3. Overton is moving up to Class D1 but should strive for another postseason push.

We knew that Elfgren had big shoes to fill in 2024 following the graduation of record-breaking setter Ashlyn Florell. This sophomore embraced that challenge and has become a leader for the next era of Overton volleyball. She tallied over 700 assists in the regular season and added 38 more in a straight-set quarterfinal win over Wynot. The Eagles are showing remarkable year-over-year consistency, and Elfgren is a new catalyst to keep the postseason streak going.

We can’t say enough good things about the new-look lineup for last year’s Class D2 champs. Overton had to replace so many of its stars from that exceptional team, but Elfgren has ushered in a new era for the Eagles. The sophomore has dished out nearly nine assists per set while also piling up over 250 total digs on the season. Ball control has become the new defining characteristic of Overton’s success, and this wouldn’t be possible without Elfgren. Next up: the D2-6 sub-district bracket.
