About Laney

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I like to have fun on the court and just let loose and play my game. I try my best to keep morals high and help my team move towards success.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am an overall positive person on and off the court. I try to provide the comic relief in sticky situations and I try my best to live life to the fullest.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am not involved in clubs or organizations and have not received any non-sport awards.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have been the captain of my high school team for two years, I coach middle school volleyball, and I volunteer my time coaching my club team's 12u team.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have suffered with anxiety most of my life. I have learned how to manage it and how to not let it affect my performance on the court

What type of college are you looking for?

I smaller college is more my speed. about 1000-4000 students is a good fit for me, coming from a small town. I tend to lean towards the D3 sized schools in the minnesota-wisconsin area as i'm from uppper michigan.

There was a certain scrappiness to Laney Johnson out of Houghton, Michigan where she plays for Keweenaw Volleyball Club.  This setter knows how to defend and put her attackers in a position to score points.  This is one of those athletes where her intangibles are positive.  She works hard, is connecting with her team, and is always finding a way to better the ball.  This squad from Upper Peninsula finished in the final four of 17/18 club, dropping a three set heartbreaker in the semifinals.
