About Larkin

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am an agile hitter who adapts successfully to any pace offensively and defensively. I work hard outside of practice to improve my quickness and coordination so I can play aggressive back row defense, and to build strength for power. I love the challenge of hitting right side and having my team depend on me to block. I’ve played every position on the court which gives me a strategic advantage.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am a calm, steady leader and enjoy being floor captain for my club team. I’ve learned to work with a wide range of personalities to bring out the best in my teammates. I know that volleyball has ups and downs, so I focus on winning when we can, and learning when we can’t. I am not the wildest personality on the team, but I am the one my teammates look to for encouragement and guidance.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a volunteer for National Charity League and the Bio-sustainability club at my school. I’ve received the Excellence in Athletics academic award for my 4.3 GPA and am being inducted into the National Honor Society. I’ve also applied for the Presidential Service Award — I’ve spent many hours training our family’s puppy that we are raising for Canine Companions.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

As captain of my club team, I’ve learned how to motivate a group of people to work toward a common goal using their individual strengths. My National Charity League class meets monthly to complete projects that I contribute to by publishing our monthly newsletter. With these responsibilities, along with taking two AP classes as a freshman, I’ve learned discipline and time management.

What type of college are you looking for?

My goal is to play volleyball for a university that will challenge me academically. My favorite subject is math. I am completing the Computer Science advanced pathway, but I am undecided on a major. I want to learn more about physics and engineering, so I will be attending a bioengineering summer camp at UCSD. I am hoping to attend a college where I can be a key contributor on the court and off.
