About Layla

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay is based on awareness and decision-making. I focus on reading the court, adjusting quickly, and putting my hitters in the best position to score. I like to play with a steady tempo and stay in control, especially in high-pressure situations.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I would describe myself as focused, competitive, and always working to improve. I put a lot of effort into preparing not just physically, but mentally too. I use things like meditation to stay locked in and ready for high-pressure moments. My goal is to stay calm, aware, and make smart decisions that help my team succeed.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I participate in student government at my school, which has helped me become more confident and involved as a leader. Academics are very important to me, and I put in a lot of time and effort to stay strong in the classroom. I believe being a student comes first, and that mindset helps me stay disciplined in everything I do.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed leadership, teamwork, and a strong sense of accountability. Being involved in both volleyball and student government has taught me how to communicate effectively, work with different personalities, and stay focused on a common goal. I’ve also learned the importance of supporting others and leading with a positive attitude.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Yes, I’ve faced challenges. Being a teenager today can be tough with things like moving to a new state, balancing responsibilities, and handling the constant pull of social media. I’ve learned how important it is to take care of both my mental and physical health. Meditation and staying committed to my sport help me stay disciplined, manage stress, and grow through those challenges.

What type of college are you looking for?

Honestly… does it have volleyball? Because volleyball is life. But beyond that, I’m looking for a college that pushes me both academically and athletically, with a strong team culture and coaches who will help me grow as a player and a person.

A setter playing up on an older team, Layla looked real good running the offense for Atomic these past few days. She has amazing hands and is able to run a quick and efficient offense with how well she sets the ball. She moves very well on the court and is athletic enough to play both front and back row as a setter. She can run any set that the defense or pass gives her and is playing exceptional right now. She is very well rounded and plays great defense (basically a libero level) and has a great serve/ always puts it where it needs to be. Layla has been real impressive this weekend so far and we can’t wait to continue see her preform as the season progresses.
