Player Bio
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
After each rally my main focus is what play does my team want to run next. I communicate with the setter so she can tell me if she wants me to pass it tighter or off the net depending on which hitter she wants to set, and I ask the blockers whether they plan to block line or cross. After they let me know I tell the outsides which defense we are doing(we name the different defense positions).
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I am very extroverted and enjoy talking with people no matter the occasions. On the court, I get crazy competitive in games and before each rally I let the team know what I am covering and what kind of defense we are doing. I communicate with the setter a lot so she can tell me where she wants the pass, and I cheer like crazy when our middle has to serve.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I founded the Harker English club and was on their Honor roll for the past 5 years. I have received the love of learning award for the past 4 years and the mission of the school award for 2 years. Last year was incredibly special as I got multiple nominations for the Love of Learning award and attended a special ceremony with only a couple other students.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Leadership is one of my best qualities. I believe that communication is essential to win games, and it is my job on the team to decide and tell everyone what kind of defense we will do along with communicate with the blockers on where they plan to cover and where the rest of the team should stand. I am very strategic and even in school I usually take the lead in projects and give out assignments.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
Halfway through the season, our coach wanted to try a new kind of defense where everyone shifts a position to the right, meaning I play left back. I struggled a lot with this for the first week of practices because previously I have only ever played left back. As a solution, I booked a few extra sessions with my private coach to practice, and soon I was playing flawless in both positions.
What type of college are you looking for?
I want really high academic colleges, preferably at the D1 level. My middle school was one of the most competitive in the bay area and I still had straight As, even on my finals. I am also known for being an incredibly competitive libero who, despite being a freshman, is about to start my 8th season. I would prefer to go to the ivy league, as they are the most high academic schools at the D1 level
