About Lyla

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I play loose and consistent, and when there’s a need for a big play or spark, I’m the player my team can count on. I’m versatile in my gameplay and can get the job done in multiple positions: at the net, blocking and hitting, setting, serving, and defense. In the middle and right side positions, I am very athletic and bring speed alongside my height to run various plays.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a winning mentality. I know when it’s time to have fun and try new things, but I also know when I need to get the job done. My mentality reflects some perfectionism, but I use it as a strength to hold myself accountable and work hard outside of practice and on the court. I support and encourage my teammates, even on their hardest days. I'm called the bright light in a dark room.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I receive multiple academic awards every quarter and have received principles list every quarter since 6th grade. I volunteer for a “help the homeless” club, volunteer as a volleyball referee, tech support at school, seatbelt awareness campaign, and various school needs as a leader for my class and school.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’m a dependable leader at the school and on my team. I am trusted with leading activities, and I enjoy working on teams for school-related projects and meeting and developing friendships and connections with other club teams. I may be competitive, but I also pride myself on sportsmanship.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Growing up as the tallest student, I faced many complications until I found my passion for volleyball. I often felt burdened by others’ assumptions about my age. I’ve learned to set boundaries and appreciate my parents’ support, even though they make sacrifices for me and my sister to play club volleyball. Despite financial challenges in showcasing my talent, I’ve managed to make a name for myself

What type of college are you looking for?

My goal is to attend an academically challenging and competitive college where I get to train and play under a knowledgeable and supportive coaching staff. I want to find a place that feels like home and where my team feels like family. I’m looking for a team that relies on and supports each other. I plan to study psychology and criminology to hopefully become an FBI agent.

Lyla was quite adept at running the slide to avoid the block of Gabriella Vizek Gabriella Vizek 6'0" | MB Riverside | 2026 State VA in the middle. Unfortunately, Riverside swept them in three.

Lyla stands 6’1″ and puts up a nice block with an approach jump of 9’11”. She won a top performer award this year at the exposure tour at Richmond Volleyball Club .
