About Makala

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I focus on developing a strategic approach to ensure we outplay the opposing team. By placing my hitters in optimal positions, I maximize their effectiveness. When my defensive players provide quick passes, I respond by executing fast plays, creating opportunities to put the opponent in uncomfortable situations and increase our chances of scoring.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I stay calm and keep my thoughts clear so my teammates can stay focused and not get overwhelmed. I'm the kind of person who encourages others and stays positive, which helps me stay in the right mindset to make good plays and help the team execute our game plan.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been recognized with the Student of the Month award and have earned a spot on the High Honor Roll for my academic achievements. In addition, I’ve actively supported the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by attending events and helping to raise funds. I am also assisting with collecting donations for the silent auction of the PrayforAveryRae campaign.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed strong leadership, teamwork, and community service skills through various experiences. I was honored to be appointed captain of my team, where I led us to numerous victories. In addition to my leadership role, I organized fundraising efforts for our team, helping raise money for team-building activities and dinners. I also dedicated time to community service with LLS.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

After spraining my ankle, I balanced physical therapy, at-home workouts, and training while keeping up with school and other commitments. The toughest part was overcoming trust issues at the net, but with time and practice, I regained my confidence and got back to playing at my best.

What type of college are you looking for?

I know I'm still in 8th grade, and there's a lot of time before I need to make big decisions about college sports. But I’m clear that it’s something I want to pursue. I understand it’ll take hard work, and I’m ready to put in the effort, staying focused on my goals while knowing I have time to grow and improve.
