About Malaya
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I love the game of volleyball and play with heart—not just for the sport, but for my team. Every practice, lift, and match is a chance to win the day, a mindset I embraced at my last club and carry with me every time I step on the court.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I’m a driven volleyball player who stays strong under pressure and never gives up. I bring positivity and laughter to my team, always seeing the glass half full. On the court and in the classroom, I give my best and work hard every single day.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I’m an active member of the Akron Chapter of Jack and Jill, an organization dedicated to uplifting and strengthening our communities. This year, I was honored to be elected as both Foundation Chair and Legislative Chair. I contribute around 40 volunteer hours annually, supporting initiatives like making beds at homeless shelters, toy drives, and assembling care packages for people in need.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I’ve grown as a leader, organizer, and communicator through my community involvement, while also deepening my empathy and commitment to service. As a volleyball player, I’ve learned the true meaning of teamwork—it's never just about me, but about what’s best for the team. Community service isn’t just something I do; it’s a core value shared by my entire family.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
Like everyone, I’ve faced my share of challenges—but I choose to meet them with hard work, determination, and hope for a better day. I believe in taking action: if there’s something you can do to make a difference, no matter how small, do it.
What type of college are you looking for?
I’m looking for a college that will support my journey to becoming a Physical Therapist; I’m passionate about after seeing firsthand how it transforms lives, not just for athletes but for people facing mobility challenges. I’m looking for a college that will helping me reach the starting line of my professional path and guiding me toward life way beyond my days of physically playing volleyball.
