About MaryJane

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am an energetic, yet focused player. I believe I have good court awareness and I am working on bettering my game IQ each match.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I pride myself on being a great leader and energy booster on and off the court. I am a positive person and I am always trying to lift people up. I am a hard worker who strives to do my best both on the court and in the classroom.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Yes. I am a part of the Students Against Distracted Driving (SADD), Glamour Girls (spending time with elderly women doing their hair and nails), Student Council, and the National Honor Society clubs at Stevenson. I have received the"Academic All-State Team" awards during both the 2023 volleyball and swim seasons. I have also been on the honor roll each semester at Stevenson.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

During my time as a student-athlete and a contributing member of the community, I have developed many skills. One that is most important to me is teamwork. It is important to not only work well with your teammates but to "know" them well too. This helps me understand them better and in turn, we can help each other meet our goals. It also helps me to build & maintain a positive team culture.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One significant challenge I have faced was breaking my right elbow and needing surgery. It was a major set back in my volleyball career, however, I did not let it mentally bring me down. I used the opportunity to watch my teammates and learn more about the game from a different vantage point. I also took the opportunity to try a new sport (Track & Field) which helped me stay conditioned.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a top-tier, competitive college both academically and athletically. I would love an active student/campus life with opportunities for me to be involved in.
