About Maya

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

As a setter, I run the floor with a calm and supportive comradery with my teammates. I enjoy celebrating the successes of my team as we huddle up and cheer for each other. My quick decision making skills helps me run a faster paced offense. I am able to push out of system passes into in-system attacks. I pride myself on being defensively aggressive and explosive at the net as a hitter.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a quiet demeanor when you first meet me. I like to listen and observe those around me before I decide to join in. Once you get to know me, I can make those around me laugh. I enjoy making a stressful situation more calm and light hearted. I am not a flashy player but I make plays that leave you saying, "Whoa."

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in my school's student council. I help my fellow class officers brain storm and organize special events for our student body.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Through my years of playing volleyball, my confidence has grown which has opened up a lot of opportunities to be a leader on and off the court. I take pride in helping my teammates be better and celebrate all of our accomplishments together.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I had to battle multiple injuries during my younger volleyball years. They, unfortunately, sidelined me. Knowing how it felt to have to sit out made me become a better athlete. I had to find the balance between playing a lot and listening to my body. Being reminded of how it felt to not be able contribute on the floor with my teammates, has motivated me to become stronger physically.

What type of college are you looking for?

I want to attend a college where I can play at a high competitive level for volleyball. I'm looking for a family-like atmosphere where I can feel connected with my teammates.
