Megan Yuen calls her volleyball IQ her biggest strength, along with her ability to stay calm and make good decisions in fast-paced situations. She takes pride in reading the court, identifying an opponent’s weaknesses, and helping her teammates succeed in ways that go beyond her own stat line. A coaching adjustment reshaped how she plays defense entirely. She learned to trust her ability to read the game instead of simply reacting, paying attention to hitter tendencies and anticipating where the ball might go before it’s even hit, and that shift taught her that good defense starts before contact, not after it.

Yuen is motivated by watching things that once seemed impossible become possible through consistent hard work, and she’s heading into her freshman season at Eleanor Roosevelt eager to keep building that mindset. She’s targeting a college program that values both academics and athletics, somewhere team-oriented and coachable, with an eventual goal of playing Division I volleyball. She shows up for teammates by staying calm and focusing on what the team needs in the moment, and she wanted to be part of the Freshman Showcase to keep growing as a defensive player and sharpen her volleyball IQ against strong competition.

Megan is sharpening her first-step speed and reading the line of attack to cover more space without losing control. At the showcase she showed confidence in her reads and composure under pace. “I want to be remembered as a relentless, high-energy player who hustles on every play.”
