Her quickness is a major plus for her on defense, and she is urgent in transition, allowing her setter to run a very fast tempo offense when Short is on the pin. The sophomore from Meridian is undersized at the pin but knows how to score over and around bigger blocks. Against Lynden, Short found the floor off the block, in the deep corners, and hammered the ball at sharp angles. Her 21 kills and 11 digs were a major factor in Meridian pushing Lynden to the limit in the five-set match.

Short followed up a fantastic freshman season at Meridian with a terrific club campaign playing six-rotation OH for Apex NW 15 Summit. The Summit squad consisted of a strong group of 10 players, nine of whom are in the 2028 class, and ultimately, the team finished third at PSR Regionals. Short has a high volleyball IQ and mixes in big swings and smart change of pace shots when she is working against a big block. She is a dynamo on defense who can run down balls to the corner and make an acrobatic dig.

The Meridian freshman was dealing on day two of the PNQ versus 1United 15 National. Short plays with physicality and athleticism on the pin, she can rise up and wipe a tight set off a defender’s block or cut a super sharp angle swing to the 10-foot line. The 2028 prospect was taking big rips out of system against a formidable blocking team, and worked hard in serve receive and in the middle back. Short found high hands and the edge of the block to score, and played fearlessly in a tight 1-set to 2 defeat.
