About Mercedes

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Over the years I've focused on developing my scrappy and skillful gameplay. I'll chase a ball till it touches the ground and give 100% on each play, making the choice that will better the ball and advance my team furthest in the game. In past seasons I've played around the court as middle, outside, right-side, and back row in serve receive and defense. I'm always ready to work and improve.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

In more recent seasons I've seen growth in my mindset on and off the court, being able to recover after a mistake has been a constant goal in mind and still is, and has even bled into my everyday life in school and other sports. If you watch my team, I guarantee you will hear me, on the bench or the court. I love to communicate and support my team 24/7, and I'm a team player.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

A skill i've worked on developing is being a leader but encouraging teamwork and equality on the court. I respect skill level and past experience, I admire grit and passion, but no matter what, if you're on the team you deserve a voice and I work to make sure I hear everyones opinion and thoughts, its not a group decision if four out of twelve drown everyone out.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Thankfully, I've never encountered an injury that was detrimental for my season, but I have come across many a mental hurdle that I had to surmount and grow from. Sometimes It's that one point that was naggin at me, or maybe its a teammate thats just keeps dragging me down, whatever it is, once I overcome it, It gets easier to do next time, and I'm all for learning.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a good community that will serve my needs to help me advance in the next stage in my life. Somewhere that will give me a new perspective and a change of scenery that helps me grow as a person, I'm open to anywhere and everywhere, but I also wouldn't mind staying close-ish to home (3-5 hour flight range). I'm ready to see some more of the world.

Gilroy was a massive piece of the puzzle for CPA 16 Benson as they won the Matt Hartner Memorial in Eugene. The Mead High School 2027 played as a six-rotation outside and delivered blistering kills in and out of system and rock-solid defense. Gilroy is a multi-sport athlete; she is an excellent beach player and one of the top javelin throwers in 3A. Her strong overall game and willingness to rip a big swing in crunch time helped push her squad to their championship match victory over Athena 16 Gold.
