About Mia

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my game play as consistent. I like to lead with my defense and get blocks when I can. I like to play aggressive but know when to adjust.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I tend to have a happy or bubbly personality. I don’t like getting down on myself or my team while playing and I love making friends during volleyball.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved with leadership and many other sports. I have received academic and citizenship awards and am slotted to be Valedictorian for my Jr. High.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I volunteer with special needs students and adults with intellectual disabilities. This has taught me patience and understanding of different people’s challenges and needs which carries over in all aspects of life, including volleyball. In my leadership role at school I have learned to work collaboratively, listen to others ideas, and be a role model for other students.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I played in AAU Nationals and injured my shoulder on the 1st day of competition. I didn’t want to let the team down but also didn’t want to injury myself further. I talked it over with my coach and parents and we came up with a plan. I took this as an opportunity to work on hitting around the blocks and placing the ball instead of just hitting with power. I also had to adjust my serves.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a collage that has a good law program and is a smaller school. I would love to play volleyball in collage but also get a strong education.

Mendoza is a talented young middle blocker who demonstrated both strong defense and offensive skills. She has a quick snap and fast arm swing which allowed her to generate significant power. She also contacted the ball at a high point which allowed her to get up and over many of the defenders on the day. Mendoza also showcased an excellent vertical as well as superb court awareness as she consistently read the block in front of her. While she is a young, she plays with a skill level and tenacity well beyond her age, making a player with a tremendous future ahead.
